HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 c1205
53. Sir R. COOPER

asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the policy dealing with aliens recently adopted by His Majesty's Government, he will publish a list of all persons not natural-born British subjects who are employed in any Government Department and who are paid out of public funds?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Bonar Law)

The Government are not prepared to give the information asked for.

Sir R. COOPER

Would it not be in the public interest to take a census of the Government Departments to ascertain who are British and who are not?

Mr. BONAR LAW

That is being done. I am sure my hon. Friend has the same wish in the matter as the rest of the House, namely, to prevent any national danger. He does not wish, in the event of these people being retained in the naitonal interest, to have them pilloried.
