HC Deb 17 July 1918 vol 108 cc1189-90

Any person whose certificate of naturalisation has been revoked shall cease to hold any position or office which is reserved to British subjects.—[Mr. Neville.]

Brought up, and read the first time.

Mr. NEVILLE

I beg to move, "That the Clause be read a second time."

It seems to me that this new Clause speaks for itself and seems to follow automatically from the effect of denaturalisation.

Sir G. CAVE

Probably the intention of this Clause is that if a man has been denaturalised he should no longer be capable of holding a position which an alien cannot hold. That I think is the effect of the Bill. If the hon. and learned Member will look at my Amendment, adopted a few minutes ago, dealing with revoked certificates, he will see that that has the effect of the proposed Amendment.

Motion and Clause, by leave, withdrawn.
