HC Deb 29 January 1918 vol 101 cc1416-7
17. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Under-Secretary for War if he is aware of the trouble given to Irishmen who were sent from Dublin to employment in Great Britain; if he is aware that calling-up notices have been served on Irishmen temporarily resident in Liverpool and Birkenhead; if he is aware that Irish workmen in Llanelly, South Wales, are also receiving annoyance from military authorities; if he will cause instructions to be issued to recruiting officers defining the position of Irishmen in Great Britain; and if he is aware that the trouble is caused by junior officers not understanding the Military Service Act?

Mr. DUDLEY WARD (Vice-Chamberlain of the Household)

I have been asked to reply. The Minister of National Service has no knowledge of the cases referred to in this question, but if the hon. Member will supply the Minister with particulars of the men in question inquiries will be made.
