HC Deb 18 January 1918 vol 101 cc599-600
1. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether his attention has been called to the custom that obtains in Polowny's restaurant, Leeds, by which a. customer Who does not partake of the meat course is penalised by having to pay for any other food considerably in excess of the prices stated on the menu; whether this arrangement, which discourages economy in meat, is sanctioned by his Department; and whether he will cause inquiry to be made?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of FOOD (Mr. Clynes)

This is the first that I have heard of this singular practice, which certainly has not the sanction of my Department. I am causing inquiries to be made.
