asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether he can state what measures are being taken to ensure the retention of a sufficient supply of live stock, rain, and other food products necessary to prevent a food shortage in Ireland?

Mr. DUKE

The Orders at present in force in Ireland under the Maintenance of Live Stock Act, 1915, prohibit the slaughter or exportation, except under licence, of the following classes of animals: Sucking calves, young female cattle up to a certain stage of development, incalf cattle, milch cows, and breeding sows. The prohibition in case of need of export of grain and other food products is a matter for the consideration of the Ministry of Food
