asked the Undersecretary of State for the Colonies what Trade Commissioners or Commercial Attaches have been appointed; what salaries have been granted in each case; and whether further appointments are pending?

I will circulate with the OFFICIAL REPORT a list of the Trade Commissioners already appointed and their salaries, and a list of the posts still to be filled. As regards the Commercial Attaché

The following Trade Commissioners have already been appointed in various parts of the British Empire at the salaries stated—

* The two Trade Commissioners in South Africa will be stationed at Cape Town and Johannesburg, but the station to which the senior Trade Commissioner will be attached has not yet been settled.
†The duties of the Trade Commissioner in India also cover Ceylon.
‡The duties of the Trade Commissioner at Singapore relate to the Straits Settlements, Federated and Non-Federated Malay States, and Dutch East Indies.
In addition, Mr. C. Hamilton Wickes, with rank as 1st Grade Trade Commissioner, is, for the time being, attached to the Department of Overseas Trade (Development Intelligence) in an advisory capacity at a salary of £1,000.
Appointments to the Trade Commissioner Service have been sanctioned for the following stations, and it is hoped that they will shortly be made—

It is contemplated that provision will be made in due course for the appointment of Trade Commissioners in other parts of the British Empire.

Service, a Selection Committee is now reviewing the candidates who have applied for posts. No appointments have yet been made, but I hope that some of the posts will be filled very shortly.
