HC Deb 26 February 1918 vol 103 c1222
4. Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Undersecretary of State for War whether he can state the position of the men who, without seeing overseas service, were discharged from the Army through medical unfitness and were granted passports allowing them to proceed to America; whether the American authorities can now send these men notices calling them up for re-examination; and whether, on the strength of an examination by American doctors, they can be returned for service in this country?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of NATIONAL SERVICE (Mr. Beck)

The Convention which has been concluded between His Majesty's Government and the Government of the United States of America secures to His Majesty's Ambassador in the United States power to grant certificates of exemption to British subjects in the United States. His Majesty's Ambassador is being informed of the procedure governing cases of discharged soldiers in this country, with a view to securing uniformity of practice.
