HC Deb 26 February 1918 vol 103 cc1227-8
5. Mr. KING

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, having regard to Harry Passerinsky having been court- martialled at Plymouth on 5th December, 1917, sentenced and imprisoned for some weeks in Wormwood Scrubs, and the sentence having been quashed by the Army Council, any apology and compensation have been, or will be, offered to this innocent man?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer is in the negative. The conviction was quashed on technical legal grounds.

Mr. KING

As the conviction is quashed, will the man be released, and is he aware it was quashed some weeks ago and that he is stall in Plymouth in the Army?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I was not aware of that fact. The question put to me was whether any compensation will be offered to him, and the answer is in the negative.

Mr. KING

Will he be released?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I will look into it.
