Major NEWMANasked the Minister of Reconstruction if it is part of the policy of his Department to secure that on demobilisation highly skilled workers shall return to the trades for which they have been fitted by long periods of apprenticeship, and that during the continuance of the War restrictions are not imposed upon such trades as will result in a reduction in their capacity of affording employment to such skilled workers after the War; and whether he will take steps accordingly respecting the effect upon this problem of the Paper Restrictions Order in so far as the trade of lithographer is concerned?
§ The MINISTER of RECONSTRUCTION (Dr. Addison)Every facility will be given to enable skilled workers to return to their original trades at the end of the War. I would remind the hon. Member that the Paper Restrictions Order is a matter over which I have no control, but I may say that the importance of preventing the unnecessary withdrawal of skilled men from industry is being borne in mind.
