HC Deb 21 February 1918 vol 103 c919
57. Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will set on foot an inquiry and, as a result of that inquiry, furnish the House with a list of well-paid sinecures or offices in which the emoluments are out of proportion to the degree of difficulty of the duties; and whether he will, on this basis, point out to the War Cabinet a source of important economies?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer is in the negative.

58. Mr. LYNCH

asked whether, for the sake of economy, he will advise the War Cabinet to abolish such offices as that of the Chief Ranger of Windsor Forest or that of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. LYNCH

What arc the duties of the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster beyond drawing his salary?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member had better give notice of that question.
