HC Deb 20 February 1918 vol 103 cc717-8
12. Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the Under-Secretary for War whether the position of General Officer Commanding the London District is always held by an officer holding the rank of a major-general; whether the appointment is for a period of three years; whether the present holder of the position has held it several months longer than that period; and, if so, whether he will say why he has been allowed to do this?

Mr. MACPHERSON

In peace time this was an appointment tenable by a major-general, and was a four-year appointment. The present holder has exceeded that period. He has been retained in his appointment in the interests of the Service.
