HC Deb 19 February 1918 vol 103 cc594-5
39. Mr. BILLING

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether posters printed in the German language are subject to censorship before they are permitted to be placed on the hoardings of this country?

Sir G. CAVE

There is no general censorship of posters, but they may come within Regulation 27 c. My attention has not been called to any poster in the German language, and if the hon. Member knows of any such poster I shall be glad to have information about it.

Mr. BILLING

Is it not a fact that some of the posters published in the East End are in perfectly good German?

Sir G. CAVE

I am not aware of that.

Mr. BILLING

Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to employ somebody, either under the Government or outside, who is acquainted with the German language?
