HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 cc277-8
77. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade what were the original terms of reference given by him when he appointed the Tramway Committee; whether such terms of reference were extended by him in a letter sent to the Committee, and has such letter been made public; if he will state the date and the terms of such letter; and whether it contained any suggestions that municipal tramway undertakings and limited company tramways should be invited to consider proposals for increasing tramway fares?

Mr. WARDLE

I am sending the hon. Gentleman a copy of the terms of reference of the Tramways (Board of Trade) Committee. These terms of reference have not been extended, but a more detailed indication of the nature of the duties which it is expected that the Committee will have to undertake has been communicated to them, and has been published in the "Board of Trade Journal" and elsewhere. Amongst these duties is the consideration of such proposals for the revision of statutory tramway fares, as may be referred to the Committee by the Board of Trade.
