HC Deb 14 February 1918 vol 103 c247
16. Mr. BYRNE

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will state the wages paid to women cleaners in Government offices in Dublin; and when the cleaners in the Land Commission offices may expect an increase in wages?

Mr. DUKE

The wages of charwomen vary considerably in different public Departments in accordance with the time for which they are employed. I would refer the hon. Member to the Estimates for particulars in the case of each Department. Office cleaners are only part-time employeés, and in paying war bonus to them this fact has been taken into account. A memorial has recently been received from the cleaners in the Irish Land Commission contending that they should get the full bonus, and a decision will be given on the application in due course.
