§ 16. Mr. BYRNEasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will state the wages paid to women cleaners in Government offices in Dublin; and when the cleaners in the Land Commission offices may expect an increase in wages?
§ Mr. DUKEThe wages of charwomen vary considerably in different public Departments in accordance with the time for which they are employed. I would refer the hon. Member to the Estimates for particulars in the case of each Department. Office cleaners are only part-time employeés, and in paying war bonus to them this fact has been taken into account. A memorial has recently been received from the cleaners in the Irish Land Commission contending that they should get the full bonus, and a decision will be given on the application in due course.
