HC Deb 06 February 1918 vol 101 c2230
8. Major NEWMAN

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether in conjunction with the representatives of our Oversea Dominions, a practical scheme is being derived for the settlement in Oversea Dominions of soldiers and sailors of the Imperial Forces who may desire to do so on the termination of the War?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Hewins)

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the Report of the Empire Settlement Committee, of which Lord Tennyson was chairman, which has been published as Cd. 8672.

Mr. BILLING

Having regard to the fact that anyone landing in the Colonies with no farming experience is very heavily handicapped, will the hon. Gentleman approach the necessary authorities in this country to give the men some training pending the time that they arc sent there?

Mr. HEWINS

No doubt that. subject will receive very careful consideration.
