Mr. ROWNTREEasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he will publish a Return of the information obtained last year from local authorities showing in each case the shortage of houses in their areas, the number of vacant houses, and the number of houses for which each authority was willing to prepare a building scheme?
Mr. FISHERI am afraid the publication of such a Return as the hon. Member asks for would not be justifiable. The information supplied by the local authorities is frequently not in a form which lends itself to statistical treatment. The position has also been modified in a number of eases after correspondence or local conferences or otherwise, and the publication of the Return suggested might lead to erroneous inferences.
