HC Deb 07 August 1918 vol 109 cc1357-8
66. Mr. GILBERT

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office what profits have been made by the Navy and Army Canteen Board; and for what objects these profits are allotted?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The balance-sheet for the year ending 31st December, 1917, is still in the hands of the auditors. Any surplus remaining over from the board's operations will be disposed of by the Admiralty and the Army and Air Councils for the benefit of the sailors, soldiers, and airmen and their dependants.

Sir F. HALL

Will that be for the benefit of the existing folk, or is it going to be handed down to posterity?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Both.

Sir F. HALL

That is what I am afraid of.
