HC Deb 07 August 1918 vol 109 cc1354-5
53. Mr. STEWART

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the desirability that our enemies should clearly understand what the economic policy of this country is, it is the intention of the Government to proceed with the Imports and Exports Bill immediately after the Recess?

62. Sir C. NICHOLSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state when he intends to re-introduce the Imports and Exports (Temporary Control) Bill; and whether the policy of the Government with regard to this subject remains the same as that indicated in the Bill introduced into this House in 1917?

Mr. BONAR LAW

As I have already explained, it was thought necessary before proceeding with this Bill that a general statement on the economic policy should be made, and I much regret that it was not possible to make this statement before the Recess. It is the intention of the Government to proceed with the Bill, the great importance of which we recognise, as soon as possible after the House resumes.
