HC Deb 06 August 1918 vol 109 cc1115-6
17. Captain BARNETT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is now in a position to state when the Railwaymen's Convalescent Home, Leasowe Castle, Wallasey, will be restored to its proper use; and if any reason exists why the German prisoners at present housed there should not be lodged elsewhere or placed under canvas?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Every endeavour is being made to arrange so that the Convalescent Home shall be given back to the railwaymen as early as possible, but I cannot at present fix any data for its return. The Committee of the Home will be given the earliest possible information.

Captain BARNETT

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is intense dissatisfaction among the railwaymen that this convalescent home is used as a barracks for German prisoners?

Mr. MACPHERSON

Yes; I understand that is so, but it was almost impossible to get any other place of the kind.
