66. Mr. KING

asked the Home Secretary whether there have been hunger strikes at Walton Gaol; whether any prisoners have been forcibly fed; if so, how many; whether Edmunds, who went on hunger strike, has been released; how many prisoners have been in hospital; and how many released from Walton Gaol in the last two months?

Sir G. CAVE

Seventeen men were hunger-striking in Liverpool Prison on the 25th July, two of whom have been forcibly fed. The daily average number of all males in hospital since the 20th July has been fifty-seven. Edmunds was discharged on 20th July and three other prisoners were released during the past two months, in addition to one temporarily discharged.
