HC Deb 01 August 1918 vol 109 c605
43. Mr. NUGENT

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that Inspector John Purcell, C Division, is endeavouring to drive the men under him into acts of insubordination by making threats and using obscene language when the constables have not as many summonses as he thinks they should have; whether he is aware that, when Inspector Purcell was serving in the ranks as a constable in the B Division, he was himself arrested; is he aware of the nature of the charge against him and the penalty inflicted; and will he say if such a man will be retained in control over others?

Mr. SHORTT

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given on this subject, in answer to his question yesterday.
