HC Deb 29 April 1918 vol 105 cc1271-2
12. Sir JOHN SPEAR

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture if anything is being done in accordance with the recommendation of the Departmental Commitee appointed to consider the settlement or employment on the land in England and Wales of discharged sailors and soldiers in paragraph 81 of the Report; and if he will consider the advisability of promoting the advancing by the Treasury of sums of money to co-operative credit societies and to country council for the purpose of starting such men in small holding?

Sir R. WINFREY

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative. The recommendation referred to has not, however, been lost sight of, and will be taken up as soon as there are sufficient settlers in the Colonies. In reply to the latter part of the question, I have nothing to add to the answer which was given to my hon. Friend on the 21st March last.
