HC Deb 29 April 1918 vol 105 c1277
74. Colonel THORNE

asked the Home Secretary whether it is proposed to weed out all police constables who are suspected by their officers to fee members of, or interested in, the Police Union, with a view to their joining the Army?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir G. Cave)

I have no reason to think that police authorities will be influenced in any way by this consideration in deciding which members of their several forces can be released in order to join the Army.

Mr. BILLING

Is the right hon. Gentleman prepared now to consider the advisability of setting up a Committee to inquire into this question as regards the police forces of this country?

Sir G. CAVE

No, I am not prepared to do that.

Mr. BILLING

Is the right hon. Gentleman prepared to receive a deputation on the subject?
