HC Deb 29 April 1918 vol 105 cc1260-1
31. Major NEWMAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that, although hens are now producing a greater number of eggs, eggs are no cheaper in London than they were last winter; and will he look into the profiteering which must be occurring in consequence?

Mr. CLYNES

I am informed that the average price of eggs is lower at the present time than that prevailing last winter. I am advised that any attempt to reduce the present level of prices would have an adverse effect on production, which would more than counterbalance any immediate advantage to the consumer.
