§ 30. Mr. WATTasked the Minister of Reconstruction whether he is aware that on the Committee he has recently appointed to inquire into the question of rents and interest on mortgages after the War there is only one Scotsman; and whether he will add a Scots expert to it, in view of the fact that the conditions of rating, the tenement system, and other important matters connected with this subject are different in Scotland and in England and that it is essential to have someone on the Committee familiar with these differences?
§ The MINISTER of RECONSTRUCTION (Dr. Addison)The chairman of the Committee, Lord Hunter, is fully competent to deal with the questions referred to, but should he find in the course of the inquiry that further Scottish assistance is desirable, I shall, of course, be glad to carry out the suggestion.
§ Dr. ADDISONNo; Lord Hunter, as Chairman, calls experts before him.
§ Sir J. BOYTONWill the right hon. Gentleman say what are the terms of reference to this Committee, and if it is one of its objects to consider the extension of rent restrictions beyond six months after the war?
§ Dr. ADDISONIf the hon. Gentleman will put a question down I will give him the terms of the reference. I could not do so without notice.
