HC Deb 25 April 1918 vol 105 c1107
25. Mr. SHIRLEY BENN

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if his attention has been drawn to the statement made in the Postal and Telegraph Record of the 11th instant pointing out the inefficient condition of the naval telegraphy system at the naval signal stations on the South Coast; whether certain telegraph operators have shown themselves unable to maintain correct telegraphic communication during the night service; and whether the Admiralty intend to take steps to re-staff their signal stations with trained and experienced telegraphists?

Dr. MACNAMARA

The work at the naval signal stations referred to by my hon. Friend is not of an onerous character, and in the opinion of the officer who is responsible for the conduct of these stations the work is being efficiently and well carried out by the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve signalmen, who have been specially trained for the purpose.
