HC Deb 24 April 1918 vol 105 c974
6. Mr. LEES-SMITH

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is now intended to appoint an Ambassador to Russia?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Balfour)

The answer to this question is in the negative.

Mr. LEES-SMITH

Will the right hon. Gentleman take into consideration the fact that both France and the United States now have Ambassadors in Russia?

Mr. BALFOUR

The Ambassadors of France and the United States may be in Russia, but how far they are accredited to the Bolshevik Government I do not know.

Mr. KING

Inasmuch as we recognise the Russian Embassy here, why should not we have a British Ambassador in Russia?
