HC Deb 24 April 1918 vol 105 c984
35. Mr. STANTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if the season ticket holders who secured their tickets at the commencement of the year are to be charged any increase by the railway companies; if the circumstances of season ticket holders will be considered by the Government; if he is aware that many of the season ticket holders are not able to afford any increase; and are their tickets to be cancelled if they cannot pay?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Wardle)

The points raised by the hon. Gentleman are being borne in mind in connection with the question of the restriction of railway facilities, which is now under consideration. My right hon. Friend hopes shortly to be able to make a statement on the subject, and in the meantime I can only say that every effort compatible with the object in view will be made not to impose avoidable hardship on essential travelling.
