HC Deb 24 April 1918 vol 105 c1017
Mr. H. SAMUEL

May I ask the Leader of the House whether it is proposed to ask the House to sit on Friday?

Mr. BONAR LAW

After consulting my Noble Friend (Lord Edmund Talbot), I think it is not absolutely necessary that we should ask the House to sit on Friday, but I am afraid that this is the last occasion on which the House will not be asked to sit on Friday?

Mr. LOUGH

With regard to the statement made yesterday as to the business to be taken today, can the right hon. Gentleman now say that if the first two Orders are disposed of today, he will not proceed further than that?

Mr. BONAR LAW

If time be available, I think there ought to be no objection to the Second Reading of the third Order—Defence of the Realm (Food Profits) Bill. All details can be discussed on subsequent stages.

Mr. LOUGH

Another day would be more convenient to some Members.

Mr. BONAR LAW

I hoped that Bill would not be contentious, but, if it be so, there is all the more reason to make some progress. The contentious part can be taken at a later stage.
