HC Deb 23 April 1918 vol 105 c859
44. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Minister of National Service if he will inquire into the case of James Horan, 95, Cedar Grove, Lodge Lane, Liverpool, who is eighteen years and six months old and who has served eighteen months in the Army and was sent back to England in July, 1916, suffering from shell-shock and who was afterwards temporarily discharged, being under age, and who, on the 13th April, was medically examined by No. 4 Medical Board, Liverpool, and put in Grade 1 though he is still suffering from the effects of the shell-shock and nervous derangement; and whether, in view of these facts, he will have a proper medical examination made of this young?

Mr. BECK

I have made inquiries into this case. When this man was examined by the medical board there was no evidence that he was suffering from the effects of shell-shock or from any nervous derangement, and I have no reason to suppose that he has been in any way insufficiently examined or incorrectly graded. The Chief Commissioner for Medical Services has, however, called for a detailed report upon his case, but this has not yet reached the Ministry of National Service.
