HC Deb 23 April 1918 vol 105 c854
54. Mr. ADAMSON

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of a general desire that, in view of the state of business, in this House, both Education Bills should be committed to Standing Committees; and whether he will favourably consider the adoption of this course?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I can add nothing to the answer which I gave to a question by the hon. Member for Somerset North, on the 15th April last.

Mr. GULLAND

When is the Scottish Education Bill likely to be introduced?

Mr. BONAR LAW

My right hon. Friend is ill, and I cannot name a date at the present time.

Mr. DENMAN

Is it not a fact that the Scottish Education Bill goes automatically to a Standing Committee, and is there any reason why English and Welsh Members, should be in a worse position in this respect than Scottish Members?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Every Bill goes automatically to a Standing Committee unless the House otherwise decides. It is entirely a question of the best method of getting the Bill through. I have already said that, if it seems later that that is the best method, that will be done.
