HC Deb 23 April 1918 vol 105 c834
24. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present state of health of W. R. Elliott, a conscientious objector, in Maid-stone Prison; whether he has been in the prison hospital for the last seven weeks; and whether, in view of his state of health, he will order his discharge?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Brace)

This man's present state of health is not such as to justify his discharge from prison. He is in the prison hospital, but this appears to be a purely precautionary measure, on account of some loss of weight. There is no serious mental or physical ailment.

Colonel Sir FREDERICK HALL

Will the Government undertake to bring in a measure to do away with questions about conscientious objectors?
