HC Deb 16 April 1918 vol 105 cc222-3
57 and 58. Major NEWMAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) whether he can give the amount of revenue other than local expenditure contributed for common Imperial purposes by the taxpayers of England, Scotland, and Ireland respectively, for the last financial year available; what percentage the contribution of each country bears to the whole revenue contributed; and (2) whether the total cost of the Irish services, such as old age pensions, national insurance, and Labour Exchanges, which the Irish Convention recommend shall be continued to be paid by Great Britain in the event of self-government being conferred on Ireland, remain substantially at the same figure as in the year 1912–13, or has there been an increase or decrease during the past five years?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I am afraid that for the moment I cannot do more than refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the Financial Relations Return (H.C. 134) of August last, and to corresponding Returns for previous years.
