Colonel ASHLEYasked the Undersecretary of State for War whether he is aware that discharged and disabled soldiers employed in the Army Pay Office, Exeter, are receiving only 31s. per week as compared with £2 3s. per week paid to temporary employed clerks who, in a number of cases, have avoided service with combatant units by taking employ- 206 ment in this office; that discharged and disabled soldiers are given no opportunity of reaching the position of supervisor, as these positions are already occupied by young girls of twenty-three years and upwards; and whether he: will take steps to have an inquiry instituted as to the general conditions of employment at the Army Pay Office referred to?
