HC Deb 15 April 1918 vol 105 c38
59. Mr. BILLING

asked the Prime Minister whether he is prepared to introduce some legislative measure to cancel far the duration of the War the changing of names by deed poll?

Sir G. CAVE

I have been asked by my right hon. Friend to reply to this question. The answer is in the negative. The execution of a deed poll is only a method of evidencing a change of name.

Mr. BILLING

Would the right hon. Gentleman say whether, in the opinion of the Government, any useful purpose is served by allowing people to change their names in this country during the War?

Sir F. HALL

Before the right hon. Gentleman answers that question, may I ask how long the hon. Member has had a hyphenated name?
