HC Deb 27 November 1917 vol 99 cc1831-2
62. Mr. NUGENT

asked whether the Committee appointed to investigate the cause of industrial unrest have finished their inquiries; if he is aware that indus- trial unrest exists in Dublin and other large centres of population in Ireland; and whether he will take steps to secure the extension of the operations of the Committee's work to Ireland or the appointment of a new Committee at once?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Duke)

The labour disputes in Belfast are being dealt with by my right hon. Friends the Minister of Munitions and the Minister of Labour. A strike of printers in Dublin has, I am glad to say, been settled by the arbitration of the Lord Mayor, to whom the dispute involved in another pending strike has also been referred. As to the rest of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave on the 13th August to the hon. Member for the Harbour Division of Dublin. I may add that proposals have been made for the establishment of a Board of Conciliation in Dublin, which I hope will lead to good results.

Mr. FIELD

Will the Government co-operate in the endeavour to appoint a Conciliation Board of a representative character in Dublin?

Mr. DUKE

If I or anybody over whom I have influence would be of any use we should be delighted to be useful to them.
