HC Deb 27 November 1917 vol 99 c1820
29. Mr. STEWART

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether the exemption granted last year from the Amusements Tax on school football matches still holds good; and, if so, will he communicate with the Board of Excise to see that this exemption is duly granted, and that no difficulties and delays are placed in the way of granting the privilege to all school matches which have the right to this exemption?

Mr. BALDWIN

The provisions of Section 12 of the Finance Act, 1916, relating to the exemption of school entertainments from tax, are still in force, and no obstacles are placed in the way of claimants for exemption by the Customs and Excise Department. The cause of the delay in the particular case about which the hon. Member has written to me was, as I have already informed him, quite exceptional, and is unlikely to recur.
