HC Deb 27 November 1917 vol 99 c1834
61. Mr. NUGENT

asked the Chief Secretary if he will state the date of appointment of the Chief Commissioner of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, the salary at appointment, and his previous knowledge of police duty?

Mr. DUKE

The Chief Commissioner of the Dublin Metropolitan Police was appointed on the 18th January, 1915, at a salary of £1,000 a year, with deduction of 10 per cent. in respect of Army retired pay. He had previously served as a resident magistrate for ten years, and during that period he performed special duty upon many occasions with police and military. The Chief Commissioner is, in my opinion, a police administrator of very high qualifications.
