§ 37. Sir SAMUEL ROBERTSasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the inconvenience caused to the public by the dispute between the railway companies and the taxi-cab proprietors at the London railway termini, he will, in default of a settlement being arrived at, make arrangements for the extra charge to be paid by the hirer of the cab as he passes out of the station or otherwise?
§ Sir G. CAVEI have no power to compel the hirer of a cab at a railway station to pay a toll to the railway company. In September last, before the recent increase of taxi-cab fares, I put forward a proposal that the ld. toll should be paid by the driver and repaid to him by the hirer of the cab, but I was informed that the proposal could not in practice be carried out.
§ Sir S. ROBERTSDoes not the right hon. Gentleman think that it is full time, in the interests of the people of the country, that this question was settled?
