HC Deb 23 November 1917 vol 99 c1535
18. Mr. NUGENT

asked what new Departments have been created in Ireland since the start of the War, the names of the Departments, the names of the head of each Department and secretaries, and the salaries paid in each case, together with the total salaries paid per annum; and how many of the staff were, at the time of their appointments, Civil servants?

Mr. DUKE

Except the Wages Board (Ireland), I think there is nothing which could properly be called a new Department created in Ireland since the outbreak of War. Many Civil servants have undertaken new or additional duties under the Ministries which deal with the administrative problems arising out of the War, and some temporary appointments have been made in connection with the same classes of work. I will consider the question of a Return as to the new appointments.

Mr. NUGENT

Am I to understand that only one new Department has been created in Ireland?

Mr. DUKE

So far as I know. If there are any others it has escaped my notice. If there are, perhaps the hon. Gentleman will call my attention to them.

Mr. NUGENT

I will call the attention of the right hon. Gentleman.
