asked the President of the Board of Education if two Committees were appointed more than a year ago, one to inquire into the teaching of science and the other to inquire into the teaching of modern languages; how often each of these Committees has met; if they are still sitting; when their Reports will be available; and what is the amount of travelling and other expenses of each of the Committees?

The two Committees in question were appointed by the Prime Minister in August, 1916. The Committee on the teaching of science has met on forty-two days, and its Sub-committees on twenty-five days. The Committee on the teaching of modern languages has met on thirty-eight days, and in addition its Subcommittees on twenty days. It is hoped that the reports of the Committees will be ready in the early part of next year. The expenses of the Committees have been:
