HC Deb 22 November 1917 vol 99 cc1342-3
32. Mr. HARCOURT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is satisfied that the curtailment of London traffic facilities is wholly conditioned by war necessities; and whether he has made full inquiry into repeated complaints on the subject?

Mr. WARDLE

So far as railways and tramways are concerned, I am not aware of curtailments of London traffic facilities other than those arising from conditions due to the War. Specific complaints on the subject always receive careful consideration, and inquiry is made when necessary, but I am afraid that in present circumstances inconvenience to the public cannot be avoided.

Sir H. DALZIEL

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether any effort is being made to deal with the dispute between the taxi-drivers and the employers, and whether anything can be done as regards the difficulty of cabs going into railway stations

Mr. WARDLE

I replied yesterday in regard to the question of cabs going into stations. The other matter is one for the Home Secretary.

Sir H. DALZIEL

Is there not a branch of the hon. Gentleman's Department which deals with labour disputes?

Mr. WARDLE

No.
