HC Deb 22 November 1917 vol 99 c1344

37, 39, and 40. The following question stood on the Paper in the names of Mr. BYRNE, Mr. GALBRAITH and Mr. T. RICHARDSON: To ask the Minister of Labour if he will state the result of his interview with the representatives of the insurance companies; if he will state whether his efforts to persuade the companies to pay their agents a living wage has been successful; and if steps are being taken to carry out the recommendations of the Industrial Unrest Committee?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Bridgeman)

My right hon. Friend has interviewed representatives of both the companies and the agents, but he is not yet in a position to make a definite statement in regard to the matter. As soon as a decision is reached he will inform the hon. Members.

Mr. LYNCH

Has the hon. Gentleman considered that the working of the Act in Ireland is rendered difficult by the fact that the agents are not properly paid?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

My right hon. Friend is considering all the points raised in the question.
