HC Deb 19 November 1917 vol 99 cc850-1
44. Mr. R. LAMBERT

asked:he Home Secretary whether a raid has been effected on the International Free Trade League at 48, Victoria Street; whether its advocacy of Free Trade is the ground of suspicion against it; if not. why was the raid undertaken; and whether incriminating documents have been found?

Sir. G. CAVE

The office of the International Free Trade League was searched on a warrant issued by the competent military authority under No. 51 of the Defence of the Realm Regulations. The raid was undertaken because the League was suspected of carrying on a propaganda in the interests of the enemy. A quantity of literature was seized and is now being examined.
