HC Deb 30 March 1917 vol 92 cc761-2
29. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if he is aware that there are thousands of rabbits running about on the Kedleston estate, Derbyshire; and, in view of the high price of meat, will he make inquiries from the owner if he will allow the rabbits to be killed and put upon the market to be sold at not more than 1s. 6d. per rabbit?

Captain BATHURST

I have no means of ascertaining the precise number of rabbits on any particular estate. Owners, I believe, are taking active steps to reduce the number of rabbits.

Mr. THORNE

May I ask the hon. Gentleman whether he is aware that if the owner of this estate gave men permission they would soon clear out his rabbits, and would make a profit for the Noble Lord who owns the estate?
