HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 92 cc38-9
Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

(by Private Notice) asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether his attention has been drawn to the, recent awards of additional war increases in wages as the result of arbitration by the Committee on Production on the applications of the Federated Shipbuilding Employers and the Federated Engineering Employers, and of the Allied Trades Unions in the private shipbuilding and engineering industries: and what consideration he proposes in consequence to give to the workmen in the Royal yards?

Dr. MACNAMARA

Yes, Sir. We have bad the awards in question under consideration, and have decided that for all workmen engaged in the Royal dockyards at home a further war bonus of 5s. a week will be granted as from Sunday next, 1st April. For male apprentices, youths, and boys, the amount of the new war increase will be 2s. 6d. a week. Time rates will therefore be so augmented. Piece prices will not be altered in consequence of this new war bonus, but piece workers will receive the bonus as an addition to their time rates.
