HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 91 cc1699-700
2. Mr. MacVEAGH

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he can give further particulars as to the Report, on recruiting in Ireland which was prepared by an Irish officer at the request of the Prime Minister when the Prime Minister was acting as Secretary of State for War; whether the Report was approved by the late and by the present Commander-in-Chief in Ireland: whether it was sanctioned by the Chief Secretary; and whether it will be laid upon the Table of the House?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

I assume that my hon Friend refers to a Report by an officer of the Irish Command which was received in the time of the late Secretary of State. This Report, which was not-asked for, was considered Departmentally, but it is not proposed to take any farther action on it.

Mr. MacVEAGH

Is this the Report that was referred to in a Debate in the House a few days ago by the hon. and gallant Member for Newport (Captain Beville Stanier)?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I am afraid that my hon. Friend must give me further particulars. I only assumed it was a certain Report.
