HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 92 cc19-20
31. Mr. KING

asked the Home Secretary whether many alien friends now in this country claim to have come to these shores as political refugees, and claim exemption from repatriation on that ground; whether bond fide political refugees are recognised as being free from being returned to the countries from which they have fled; and whether the Advisory Committee on the Internment of Aliens or any other body will be entrusted with advising in such cases?

Sir G. CAVE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As to the remainder of the question, I must refer my hon. Friend to the statement made by the Leader of the House on the 27th February.

Commander WEDGWOOD

Are there any political refugees in this country who are not at liberty to return to Russia if they wish to do so, and can do so with public safety?

Sir G. CAVE

I think not.
