§ 48. Mr. HASLAMasked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that hundreds of motor ears are being used by persons attending race meetings, and, in view of the consumption of petrol, will he take means to bring racecourses and their precincts within the meaning of the Acts relating to betting in public places; and will he take means to prevent the publication of betting information?
§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir G. Cave)My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. The general question of allowing or suppressing race meetings is one which has been dealt with by the Board of Trade. I do not think anything would be gained by adopting the indirect method of discouraging them which is suggested by the hon. Member.
