HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 92 c36
20. Mr. DALRYMPLE

asked the hon. Member for Sheffield (Central Division) whether British prisoners of war in Switzerland are charged duty on foodstuffs or clothes which may be sent to them from this country; and, if so, whether steps will be taken to have this hardship removed?

Mr. HOPE

I am informed that supplies sent to British prisoners of war interned in Switzerland appear to be subject to the same imposts as other imports into that country. Having regard to the courtesy of the Swiss Government and people in receiving prisoners of war for internment, I do not think we can ask for a remission of the duties in question.
